About the performance

Russian conductor Stanislav Kochanovsky is one of today’s rising stars. In this concert, he conducts an all-Russian programme for his debut with the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, with Rimsky-Korsakov’s magical Sheherazade as its high point.

Shostakovich cello concertos are among the composer's best-known works. The virtuosic cello concertos were written for Mstislav Rostropovich during some of the composer's most fruitful years in the 1950s and 1960s. The soloist for the evening is one of the most respected and prestigious contemporary cellists, Truls Mørk.
