Visit the theatre with English surtitles
Would you like to see Dutch plays, without the language barrier? At Internationaal Theater Amsterdam, you can enjoy different performances without having to understand Dutch.
Watch ITA's in-house theatre ensemble on Thursdays with English translations
The ITA-ensemble (formerly known as Toneelgroep Amsterdam) is a company with international allure, known for its first-rate performances and attracting renowned directors from the Netherlands and abroad. On Thursdays, the ITA-ensemble performances (in Dutch) are surtitled in English. Surtitles are like subtitles, but are shown above the stage, so non-Dutch speaking attendees won't miss a beat!
The Hours
The Hours takes place on one day in the lives of three women, at three different moments in the 20th century. One is a book publisher, the other a housewife, and the third is the writer Virginia Woolf. All three struggle with the question of how to be yourself in a world that is tight like a straitjacket. This play is based on Michael Cunningham’s Pulitzer-prize winning novel and directed by Eline Arbo.
