Rotterdam Verlicht | Stroll around Rotterdam and witness spectacular light art
Rotterdam Verlicht has been lighting up the city of Rotterdam during the cold winter months and continues to do so until February 28. This is the first edition of Rotterdam Verlicht, and it has been hailed glittering a success, setting the tone for a winter celebration to look forward to for years to come.
Rotterdam Verlicht on Valentines Day
What’s more, on Valentine’s Day, the place will be alight with love messages from secret and not-so-secret admirers. Heartwarming texts written in bright lights especially for Valentine's Day can be seen at Santos building, Wijkpark Oude Westen, Paul Krugerstraat, SS Rotterdam, Erasmus University and Westersingel.
Rotterdam Verlicht locations
If you’d like to go for a stroll and see more light art, there’s stuff going on in many different parts of Rotterdam. Places where you can see the light displays are:
- Het Nieuwe Instituut: The glowing rectangular tunnel, as seen in the picture above
- Zuidplein: Port building and Verzamelgebouw
- Alexanderplein: Alexandrium shopping centre, car park and steps
- Hoek van Holland: Train station, Zeetoren, Fort 1881, lighthouse and Atlantic Wall museum
- Euromast: The tallest public tower in the city is lit up with the words “Sterker door Strijd”
- Afrikaanderwijk: Santos Building and “Light Paintings” on Paul Krugerstraat
- Witte de Withstraat: “Light Texts” projected onto the buildings
- Westersingel: Audiovisual experiences projected onto the facades of terraced houses
- Coolsingel: Illuminated plane trees and light emanating from inside the Post Rotterdam building
- Heemraadsplein: The lights in this square pay tribute to the area's Cape Verdean population
- Erasmus University: If you're around campus you're bound to notice all kinds of alluring lights
- SS Rotterdam: The cruise ship-turned hotel is lit up with the words “Sterker door Strijd”
- Ahoy: A screen on the conference centre shows images by different artists from 5.30pm-8.30pm each night
