Rotterdam Photo celebrates the work of independent photographers in one of the many iconic public spaces in the city of Rotterdam.

Rotterdam Photo

Rotterdam Photo returns from May 16-25, 2025, transforming the city’s cultural heart - Museumpark - into a vibrant hub for photography, dialogue, and artistic exchange. This year’s theme, Shared/Connected, invites audiences to explore the evolving nature of human connection, community, and the role of visual storytelling in a fragmented world.

Shared/Connected

In an era marked by both hyper-connectivity and growing social divides, Rotterdam Photo 2025 poses a timely question: What does it mean to be truly connected? The festival delves into the complexities of identity, the privatisation of public life, and the ongoing search for meaningful bonds, both digital and physical. Through photography, artists and viewers are encouraged to reflect on themes like family, technology, belonging, and the shared values shaping our collective future.

Photographers of all stripes

More than 40 international photographers, both emerging and established, will present powerful visual stories through container exhibitions and open-air installations. These accessible platforms give voice to independent creators exploring a broad spectrum of topics, from climate and cultural heritage to personal identity and the digital self.

Rotterdam Photo also proudly features the recipients of the Amarte Dutch Talent Project Grants. These selected photographers have developed new work that embodies the festival’s core theme of connection, offering bold, fresh perspectives on today’s social and ecological challenges.

Complementing the open call participants is a curated lineup of invited artists: Mark Engelen, Yixi Tian, Igor Schiller, and Kriss Munsya. Each contributes a powerful lens on the Shared/Connected theme, deepening the festival’s narrative and sparking conversation.

Talks and conversations

In partnership with Arminius, Rotterdam Photo will host a dynamic series of artist talks and public discussions, including two headline Photo Talks:

  • Photo Talk 1: AI in Curation and Image Making
  • Photo Talk 2: Can Photography Rebuild Connection in a Divided World?

With renowned speakers and moderators, these sessions invite the public into a critical conversation about the future of photography and its potential to foster connection.

More than photos

Beyond the exhibitions, Rotterdam Photo is known for its lively energy. Enjoy performances by local bands, DJs, and creative collectives that bring rhythm and community to the heart of the festival.
