Riccardo Chailly and the Orchestra e Coro Teatro alla Scala
In the Netherlands, Riccardo Chailly is known as conductor emeritus of The Concertgebouw Orchestra. For sixteen years, from 1988 to 2004, he was chief conductor in Amsterdam. The Milanese conductor has been at the head of the famous Milan Scala as musical-artistic director since 2015.
The orchestra travels to Amsterdam with a full-blooded Verdi programme. Bachtrack wrote that in Verdi's Va' pensiero, the choir and orchestra expressed the longing for their homeland in a subdued but brilliant way.
An evening full of Verdi
An evening dedicated to Giuseppe Verdi reminds us that Italian is the international language of music: how much nicer does un pochissimo più mosso sound than "a little faster"... Music from Verdi's first success, Nabucco, to imperishable masterpieces like Don Carlos demonstrates how rightly Verdi's place as number one among Italian opera composers is.
No better match of musicians for this concert than the choir and orchestra of the Milan Scala, the place where Verdi celebrated so many triumphs.
