The Amsterdam Spanish Film Festival (ASFF) focuses on films from Spain and Latin America. The films are shown in Spanish with English subtitles, rather than Dutch ones, therefore it is perfect for expats.
Amsterdam Spanish Film Festival shines the lens on the cinema of Spain and the Spanish-speaking Latin American countries, showcasing trends in mainstream Spanish-language film and also shedding light on independent and experimental Spanish films for audiences in many renowned cinemas in Amsterdam.
Amsterdam Spanish Film Festival 2024
The 10th anniversary promises to be bold. The audience will not only enjoy the best of Spanish and Latin American cinema, but also performances, live music, gastronomy and Q&A sessions with film directors and renowned actors who will interact with the audience, providing a comprehensive picture of their work.
The festival programme is organised into several sections, each encapsulating its unique essence:
- CORE programme features a carefully curated selection of the most exciting and recent Spanish films.
- LGBTQIA+ section celebrates the heritage of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and intersex communities.
- Educational programme showcases the richness of the Spanish language to younger audiences.
- Focus Latino section highlights Latin American filmography.
- Spanish Cinema Without Fear, dedicated to experimental cinema, which pushes boundaries within the Spanish film industry, offering diverse Spanish stories catering to a wide range of audiences, reflecting on ASFF's journey over the past decade.
Many special guests attending
You know them all. Tangana, the Spanish singer who has won more than nine Latin Grammys; Omar Ayuso, a Spanish actor known for his roles in Elite and The Principe; Jaime Lorente, also known as Denver from La Casa de Papel ... all of them are waiting for you at ASFF 2024. Come and join the special screenings with a Q&A session afterwards to meet them!
Opening Night: LGBTQIA+ films
The big Opening Night takes place next Friday, April 12, from 6pm at Pathé Tuschinski. On this night, the festival will kick off with two screenings from the LGBTQIA+ section, "Where Love Goes".
Disco, Ibiza, Locomía
The first film, Disco, Ibiza, Locomía brings the audience to Ibiza in the 80s, and follows the story of the eccentric band Locomía, who conquered the musical panorama during those years with their fusion of techno, flamenco and rumba.
Gard Pesschier, an original Dutch member of the group, will join Jaime Lorente (who plays the role of the group's leader) during the Q&A session.
Te Estoy Amando Locamente
Following that, an interval will take place that will serve Spanish drinks and montaditos to the audience, providing energy for the next session. The second film, Te Estoy Amando Locamente, transports us to Seville in the late 70s. The story focusses on a powerful mother joins the fight for LGBTQIA+ rights after the fall of the dictatorship.
The screening, presented by Sevilla City and Turespaña, will be followed by a Q&A session where the audience can engage with special guests. The director, Alejandro Marin, and actor, La Dani, will be in attendance to discuss the film. It is a night that should not be missed!
