Impressive creations made entirely of sand can be admired in the Veluwe during the Sand Sculpture Festival!

Exploring our own country

This year’s theme for the sand sculptures will be "75 Years of Liberation". For those taking a staycation in 2020, this is highly recommended as a day out, coupled with exploring the National Parks in the region, Veluwezoom and Hoge Veluwe.

Veluwezoom is the oldest national park in the Netherlands, and one of the largest, while Hoge Veluwe is the largest privately-owned national park.

Festival site

Once you enter the festival, just pick a direction and start exploring! The festival site is fascinating whichever way you look. Curious little streets with sculptures hidden in the shop windows can lead to a grand representation of the Veluwe forest.

The grounds are richly decorated with a sea of flowers surrounding the sand art. An indoor section invites you to explore more than 35 sculptures, depicting soldiers, vehicles, medals, buildings and scenes from World War II.

The artists and creators of the festival also present sand-sculpted versions of famous buildings in the Netherlands and triumphant scenes of celebrations on Liberation Day. This year, Remembrance Day and Liberation Day took place without any public gatherings, so in essence, this can be a way of marking these notable events.

Opening times

The Sand Sculpture Festival is open from 9am until 6.30pm from Monday to Saturday. (On Tuesdays and Thursdays it stays open until 9.30pm in summer.)
