Oerol means "all over" in Terschelling dialect, and that is where the festival takes place: everywhere! The entire island of Terschelling is involved in this unique event.

Exceptional theatre festival

Terschelling’s Oerol theatre festival has the reputation of being one of the most fun, most exceptional theatre festivals in Europe. For 10 days in June, the island of Terschelling in the Wadden Sea is transformed into a unique natural stage for theatre, dance, street theatre, art and music. The shows are created or adapted especially for the exceptional locations where they are performed. This year, it all takes place online.

The festival programme features lots of physical theatre that can be enjoyed by non-Dutch speakers. You can find hilarious circus shows and spectacular dance performances, as well as intimate musicals and exciting westerns. The setting is half the fun, however, as the performances take place in the dunes, woods and sheds and on the beaches, dykes and streets of Terschelling.

On a typical year, productions can be found in the villages, on the beaches, but also in the most unexpected, out-of-the-way places on the island. The theatre productions, for which you have to buy a separate ticket, take place in the dunes, the woods or on the beach.
