Let's Catch Up, the social initiative organised by the Expat Centre Maastricht, invites you to a special edition of this meetup - Let's Catch Up - Dutch Dance at Lumière - in collaboration with the Dutch Dance Festival and the Lumière Cinema. Don't miss this unique evening at Lumière Cinema on October 2.

This dance-centred film night in Lumière, with an exclusive Q&A and drinks afterwards, is an occasion in which the Dutch Dance Festival will be honouring the Nederlands Dance Theatre by bringing together three NDT masterworks.

After the film screening, there will be a questions and answers session with Ronald Wintjens, director of the Dutch Dance Festival, about the event and the films. As usual in a Let’s Catch Up evening, the night is not complete without a toast. One drink is included in the ticket price, so you can toast to the festival that starts that week.

Let's Catch Up timetable

On October 2, the timetable for Let's Catch Up is as follows:

  • 8.45pm - start film programme
  • 10pm - Q&A with Ronald Wintjens, director of the Dutch Dance Festival
  • 10.30-m - Let's Catch Up toast at Lumière bar (1 drink included in the ticket price)

NDT film programme at Let's Catch Up

The Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT), based in The Hague, has been nominated this year for two Swan awards. NDT guest choreographers and former dancers Imre and Marne van Opstal have been nominated for a Swan for the most impressive dance production for Take Root and NDT 1 dancer Chloé Albaret has been nominated for a Swan for the most impressive achievement in dance for her role in Sol León & Paul Lightfoot’s Start to Finish.

It's a pivotal moment for the NDT, as Paul Lightfoot will retire as artistic director of the dance company in the summer of 2020, at the end of its 60th anniversary season.

Here are the featured works at this event:

The Statement by Crystal Pite

The Statement (2016) created by Crystal Pite is a one-act performance in which four characters are prisoners of their personal struggle for control and the morality of their actions.

Stop-Motion by León & Lightfoot

Sol León and Paul Lightfoot made Stop-Motion (2014) to the melancholy music of Max Richter. Seven dancers portray the confusing emotions that accompany separation.

Midnight Raga by Marco Goecke

Marco Goecke won a Swan for the most impressive dance production for Midnight Raga (2017). He based the duet on the mystical work of the Indian musician Ravi Shankar.
