International Day of Yoga is the Dutch answer to the global event that celebrates yoga. Worldwide, International Yoga Day takes place on June 21. The Embassy of India, HolisticYogaNL and the Groningen Indian Students Association will host this special yoga event on Waagplein in Gronignen.
Whether you are an experienced yogi, a yoga instructor, a newcomer to yoga or just curious about yoga or meditation, this is an ideal day where you can get a broad look at what yoga entails.
Yoga is an umbrella term for a group of physical, mental and spiritual practices and disciplines that originated in India, most likely between the 5th and 6th centuries. Hatha yoga, for instance, is extremely popular all over the world and involves physical postures and stretches to promote physical health and wellbeing, but it is only the tip of the iceberg.
There are many forms, not all of them involving physical exertion, many of them delving deeply into spiritual dimensions of our consciousness. This morning yoga event for all walks of life is the perfect chance to find out more.
Admission is free, but reserving your place is essential. You can book on the International Day of Yoga event page. Yoga can sometimes be expensive for many people, so this is your chance to experience a morning dedicated to yoga, for free.
