De Nieuwe Regentes, Weimarstraat 63, 2562 GR The Hague

If you're interested in experiencing the arts in a new and engaging way, then you'll find HUBS Immersive Festival a real treat.

A superb interdisciplinary festival in The Hague

After its first edition in 2017, which was enthusiastically received, this interdisciplinary festival in The Hague is back. Taking over the entire building De Nieuwe Regentes, a former swimming pool, which now functions as, amongst other things, a theatre, the festival is a truly superb, unmissable experience.

Performers and artists in this year's festival programme - both international and based in The Hague - take the audience on a sensory tour, where they are plunged into an interdisciplinary experience for about two and a half hours at a time.

At one moment you might be part of an adventurous artwork, the next you may be enchanted by a beautiful dance or circus performance or encapsulated in an intimate one-to-one installation. HUBS Immersive Festival invites a broad, curious audience to attend one of the three different timeslots on November 8 and 9.

HUBS Immersive Festival timetable

The timetable is as follows:

  • November 8 at 8pm
  • November 9 at 4pm
  • November 9 at 8.30pm

A very human art experience

The initiative and artistic direction of the festival comes from Jérôme Meyer and Isabelle Chaffaud, who also work as choreographers in contemporary dance with their company Meyer-Chaffaud.

The participating program partners and artists share their fascination for the human body and put their focus on societal themes and patterns. HUBS Immersive Festival is, all in all, a very human art experience.

Local and international artists

About 16 local and international artists will reenact or create new site-specific work during HUBS Immersive Festival.

Some of the artists and acts this year include the following:

  • Array / Darren Johnston (UK) unveils a new holographic work.
  • Hilde Tuinstra / SHIFT HAPPENS (Netherlands) has her own poetic way of discussing the security industry, combining theatre and choral singing.
  • Wen Chin Fu (Taiwan) stages a work involving two opera singers.
  • Erin Skye (Australia) makes you wonder with her circus act.
  • Ludmila Rodrigues lets you dive into a new inflatable artwork.
  • Davide Tidoni (Italy) brings a sound work which requires audience involvement.

This year's theme: Voluntary Exile & Hospitality

Internationals living in the Netherlands, in particular, might feel drawn to this year’s festival theme: Voluntary Exile & Hospitality. The interdisciplinary artworks open dialogues in different, surprising ways, and provide a leap into the unknown for audiences.

A new experience like living in another country asks us to be open to what’s happening around us and makes us experiment to find the best way to live in this new place or reality. Sometimes you move of your own free will. In some cases, on the other hand, people are forced to leave their home ground.

What exactly happens when you put yourself in this vulnerable position? This is also a matter of how the people around you react. Are they welcoming or the complete opposite, and why? All that you see or experience during this year’s HUBS Immersive Festival ties together this theme of Voluntary Exile & Hospitality.
