Downstage Left Presents Tamara

De Nieuwe Anita, Frederik Hendrikstraat 111, 1052 HN Amsterdam
10 euros, cash only

The English language theatre company Downstage Left presents the new play Tamara: Sex, Robots and the Limits of Humanity. Fresh on the Amsterdam scene, this theatre group is proud to present this edgy, thought-provoking theatre work.

About the play

Tamara is a brand new play by Irish playwright Denis Burke, and explores what might happen if we were faced with the presence of human-like robots in our daily lives. Rather than a story about technology itself, this play is about relationships and ethics that arise from interactions with robots.

The story takes place in a flat in contemporary London where circumstances throw a young female student into a bonding experience with her male housemate and his robot, Tamara. As they grow to know each other, questions arise as to whether robots have feelings and if so, to what extent. The dilemma of whether to treat a robot like a human poses a moral struggle. This racy new play invites us to reflect on issues of humanity and how we treat other beings.

An Amsterdam premiere

Tamara premieres at 8.30pm on April 12 at De Nieuwe Anita on Frederick Hendrickstraat in Amsterdam. Tickets are 10 euros each, available at the door.
