"Great job, sweetie!" "You're so smart" "Well done!" "That's brilliant!"

Is this the way to develop confidence in our kids?

The right kind of praise can boost confidence and motivation in our children. Used correctly, it can inspire children to be more cooperative, persistent and hard working. However, some praise can have negative effects. If a child feels it is undeserved or insincere, they can become worried when challenged, or afraid of failure if they’ve always been told “you’re so smart”. We parents have a natural desire to protect our kids from their challenges, uncomfortable feelings, setbacks and failures.

And if the goal is to have resilient kids who can problem solve and can thrive in all walks of life, it is important to find that sweet spot where our children feel supported by us and also feel confident and capable enough to deal with whatever challenge comes their way.

Attend the free NAISR parenting presentation online

Join Nord Anglia International School Rotterdam for their next free Parent Education Presentation (PEP) on Raising Confident Kids. During this online event, you'll explore how to support your kids through their challenges, how to coach our kids with specific praise to develop a growth mindset, boost their self-esteem and self-efficacy, unlearn "perfectionism".

This is one of many free Parenting Presentations offered by Nord Anglia International School Rotterdam. The school believes that parent education is important for raising happy children and building strong families and communities. Raising children is one of life's most rewarding experiences but can also be stressful. When you're living in a foreign country, it's good to have a support network and reliable sources of information.

The speaker, Mrs Shruti Kumar is an international lawyer turned full time parent coach. She is a mum of two, born and raised in India and now based in the Netherlands. Shruti works with parents to help them parent intentionally so that they can raise resilient kids through connection, joy and empathy. She supports parents by offering them awareness, tools and strategies to invite cooperation, collaboration and teamwork in their everyday lives.
