On December 14, Iván Fischer takes to the stage in Amsterdam as he conducts the Concertgebouw Orchestra. They will be performing works by Bruckner and Bach. Get your tickets now!

Enjoy hearing music of Bach & Bruckner at the Concertgebouw

The orchestra eagerly anticipates playing Bruckner’s Third Symphony under the direction of honorary guest conductor Iván Fischer. Bruckner dedicated this profound masterpiece to his idol, Richard Wagner. Iván Fischer points out, however, that Bruckner’s art has much older foundations. Therefore, this programme also includes a work by the great baroque composer Johann Sebastian Bach - the least familiar of his four orchestral suites (BWV 1066-1069).

Bach, like Bruckner, was a gifted organist and a profoundly religious man. He is recognised as the grand master of counterpoint, or the art of making several voices sound together in one harmonious whole. Bruckner gave that early technique an utterly new twist within the symphonic form popularised by Beethoven and Brahms.

Iván Fischer conducts the Concertgebouw Orchestra

Iván Fischer has made guest appearances with the Concertgebouw Orchestra almost every year since 1987. In June 2020, he presided over the Ammodo conducting masterclass. In the same year, the orchestra appointed him honorary guest conductor with effect from the 2021/22 season.

He is active as a composer and as opera director for his Iván Fischer Opera Company. He is also the founder of several festivals, including the Vicenza Opera Festival. In the past Iván Fischer was Music Director at Kent Opera, Opéra National de Lyon, Principal Conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, and chief conductor of the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, which named him honorary conductor.

Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra

The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra was founded in 1888. Its distinctive sound has made it one of the world’s leading orchestras.

The orchestra is famous for its renditions of works by Gustav Mahler, Richard Strauss and Anton Bruckner, and for its long-standing concert traditions such as the St Matthew Passion in the week before Easter and the Christmas Matinee. It has always worked closely with contemporary composers.

The Concertgebouw Orchestra has had just seven chief conductors to date. The eighth has been announced: Klaus Mäkelä will become chief conductor in 2027. The coming season sees five extraordinary programmes with Klaus Mäkelä at the helm.
