Bright, Romantic, and intimate
With a programme for both classical music connoisseurs and new listeners alike, the evening opens with an overture by Mendelssohn. However not, as you may expect, Felix, but a beautiful orchestral work composed by his older sister Fanny.
When opening the last season, Sinfonia Rotterdam and conductor Van Alphen stunned their listeners with the introduction of the sixth symphony of Johann Wilhelm Wilms. Composed early in the 19th century, the "sturm und drang" music of this unknown Dutch composer evokes the style of classical masters Haydn and Mozart. These concerts take place in the small, intimate settings of the small hall of De Doelen in Rotterdam and the monumental Kloosterkerk church in The Hague. In these cosy and intimate halls, you sit just steps away from the musicians, so you can experience every detail of their expertise. The concerts are without an intermission, and afterwards the conductor, soloist and musicians join you for a drink on the house. In the Kloosterkerk, guests can enjoy a complimentary glass of wine sponsored by a local wine shop.
