Afrovibes Performing Arts Festival brings the most outstanding pioneers and established performing talents from Africa to the Netherlands. The festival looks to the entire continent of Africa for inspiration, perspectives and bright visions. In this 20th edition, the artists hail from Morocco, South Africa, Ivory Coast, Tunisia, Egypt and the Netherlands, among others.

About Afrovibes Performing Arts Festival

Afrovibes is a celebration of topical contemporary dance, theatre and design from Africa, where art and culture are booming with plenty of astounding talent. For 12 days in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and Utrecht, visitors can enjoy all the quality of arts that Africa has to offer. Many of the pieces are either performed in English or will have English surtitles, or are dance pieces where no language is required.

Afrovibes programme

Afrovibes has an extensive fringe programme of debates, masterclasses, artistic exchanges, music, a design exhibition with contemporary African design and graphics, and a special artist-in-residence project.

Theme for 2024: Belonging

This year's theme is "Belonging" and the festival has filled the programme with performances that have a focus on North Africa and the (North) African diaspora in the Netherlands. North African countries are often seen as ‘non-African’ but as belonging to the Arab world. How can we see this from an African perspective?

Through work by artists from North Africa and from the North African diaspora in the Netherlands, Afrovibes Performing Arts Festival explores this from an African perspective. Do they feel connected to the African continent and an African identity or to an Arab identity? In their own way, each of this year’s artists explores how and with whom we feel connected. They delve into cultural and political debates about identity, diaspora and decolonisation. They explore our desire to belong somewhere, to have a home.
