A warm and sunny weekend is on its way to the Netherlands

The last two weeks have, on the whole, been dreary, wet, and grey. But good news! Our patience is being rewarded with sunshine and (slightly) higher temperatures this weekend. 

A summery weekend is on the cards

This past week has seen a lot of rain and a lot of clouds, but it will clear up as we head into the weekend, with temperatures rising to 25 degrees in some parts of the Netherlands on Saturday. The weekend will also stay dry, with a mix of a few clouds and some sunshine.

Sunday evening could potentially see some rain, but the sunshine should follow us into next week. While not exactly tropical, we could hopefully see highs of up to 25 degrees at points during the week. Fingers crossed the weather this weekend will last a little longer than just a few days, as, from Friday, July 17, all schools in the Netherlands are officially on summer holiday. 

But the weather will remain unstable

Don’t get too comfortable though, everyone. Meteorologists are expecting the weather this summer will continue to be unstable and unpredictable. So anyone planning a staycation this summer, don’t expect tropical temperatures and long sunny days. The temperatures going into the last two weeks of July are looking to stay a little below the July average of around 22 degrees. 

Meteorologist Wilfred Janssen says the weather in the coming weeks is due to the high pressure in the Azores region in Portugal. The combination of low pressure in Northern Europe, and high pressure in Southern Europe, will lead to a mixed-bag weather-wise. 

As for August, Weerplaza predicts that it will get wetter and greyer again. Therefore, it’s safe to say that summer 2020 won’t be as hot or as dry as some of the summers the Netherlands has seen in the past few years.
