The top 10 energy suppliers in the Netherlands for 2025 have been revealed by comparison site Independer. Along with a list of the best-rated providers, here are some tips on choosing the best energy supplier.

Tips for choosing an energy provider in the Netherlands

With more than 30 Dutch energy providers to choose from, it can be confusing to know which one to pick, and with energy prices rising, the decision is an important one. Whether you don’t use gas in your home or you only want to use energy from sustainable sources, it is important to choose a supplier based on your specific needs. Here are some things to consider when making your choice:

Check the terms and conditions

This will include everything from the cancellation fee for early termination of the contract to the type of energy you will receive.

Read other customer reviews

Get an insight into whether customer service is good, how the rates are and other points that you find important for your decision.

Decide on a rate: fixed, variable or dynamic

The best type of rate for you will depend on your consumption patterns. With a fixed rate, you will pay the same amount every month. A variable rate means the amount you pay could change from month to month, while a dynamic rate changes based on real-time market conditions.

Find out which contract duration is most suitable

Pricing can differ based on how long a contract lasts, so it is best to see which duration works best for you.

Choose between a single or double rate

With a single rate, you pay the same amount no matter when you use your power, while with a double rate, you pay a different amount for off-peak and high-peak periods. With grid operators wanting to charge more for peak-hour power use, this factor could make a big difference in the future.

Find out if the supplier uses sustainable energy

Check what type of energy the provider supplies and if you want to only use green energy, choose one with a higher sustainability score.
