Rutte: Russia's brutal attack on democracy and freedom cannot succeed

By Victoria Séveno

In a video uploaded to Mark Rutte’s official Twitter account, the Dutch Prime Minister condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine and expressed his support for the Ukrainian people in “these dark hours.”

Our hearts are with the people of Ukraine, Dutch Prime Minister says

Late on Thursday evening, Rutte shared a video message for the people of Ukraine, expressing his admiration for President Volodymyr Zelensky and the country’s military and civilian fighters. “We in the Netherlands support you,” the Dutch Prime Minister said. “We are family in Europe.”

As part of the European Union, the Netherlands has imposed various sanctions on Russia, and the Dutch government has provided humanitarian aid in the form of food, water and medical supplies, as well as sleeping bags, tents, and blankets for refugees in Moldova. In the video message, Rutte committed to providing more support for the Ukrainian people in their fight against Russia.
