Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) has announced that train services in and around Amsterdam will be disrupted throughout much of the day on March 6 due to a faulty railway switch and a “defective track”.

NS expects disruption to train services will last all day

At around 9am on Monday morning, NS confirmed via its Twitter account that fewer Intercity trains were operating on the routes running from Schiphol Airport via Amsterdam through to Utrecht, and that no trains are running between the airport and Hilversum or Lelystad. According to the railway operator, the reduced services are the result of a defective track in the Amsterdam area.

NS announced at 9.43am that it expected the adjusted timetable to remain in place throughout Monday, explaining that it will take several hours to resolve the issue. Those planning to travel via public transport have been warned to prepare for delays and cancellations, and have been advised to make use of the metro services in Amsterdam where possible.

Also, fewer trains running between Alkmaar, Amsterdam and Rotterdam

In addition to reduced services at Schiphol, NS has announced that, due to a broken railway switch near Zaandam, fewer trains are running between Amsterdam Centraal and Alkmaar, and Amsterdam Centraal and Rotterdam. The disruption is expected to last until midday on Monday.

Finally, in some slightly better news, the disruption to railway services between Amsterdam, Haarlem and Leiden that NS announced at 7am on Monday morning has reportedly been resolved. However, further disruption is expected on various local services throughout the day as a result of the ongoing regional public transport strikes.
