The Hague's insatiable demand for biking has led to calls to improve cycling infrastructure, in particular, the need to double parking spots.

At the moment there are some 5.100 parking spots for bicycles at The Hague's Central Station. The Municipality of The Hague, the NS and ProRail project estimate that there will be a projected demand for 11.400 biking spots by 2020, so plans have been created to increase capacity to 10.050.

The municipality plans involve increasing the capacity of the Rijnstraat bicycle park by 800 to 3.550 biking spots. Two further locations, at Prins Bernardviaduct and Koningin Julianaplein, will be created to house 1.500 and 5.000 bicycles respectively.

The demand for biking spots around transport links is a result of increased traffic to Rotterdam on the Erasmuslijn, and soaring numbers of train commuters. Biking use throughout the Netherlands has remained popular, with the state committed to promoting green transportation.
