We’ve all been there: the morning cycle to work takes a little longer than expected, and you sprint to the platform - only to see your train pulling away without you. Or, alternatively, you bust a gut running through the station, only to find that your train is delayed, and you could have saved yourself the effort. Well, a new app is in development that can predict whether you’ll make it or not.
RTL reports that Jens de Ruiter, a professional website developer, is working on a new app that shows exactly how long it will take you to walk to the station and - taking into account live train updates - whether you have enough time to make the train. The idea came to Jens a little over a year ago, when he became frustrated over constantly just missing his connection.
Simply enter the station you are heading to and input your train's departure time. The app will then calculate your walking speed and tell you if you’ll be on time for the train. If the train is delayed, the plan is for the app to compute this and adjust your walking time accordingly.
While the app is still under development, Jens recently posted about it on TikTok and received an overwhelming response from people who have exactly the same daily struggle with their trains.
He expects it to be available on iOS and Android within one to six months, while he works on some tweaks to make it more user-friendly. In the meantime, he’s looking for a name for the app, so if you have a suggestion, why not pop him a message?
