Many of our clients come to us for the first time and explain how they’ve been to see “everyone”. From doctors to physiotherapists and all types of other specialists but nobody was able to help them find a long term solution to their health problem.

Chiropractors, however, take a completely different view to your health than other health professionals. Rather than focusing on a specific symptom or one dysfunctional part of the body, they look at you as a whole human being trying to navigate your way through life. Their goal is to help you be the best version of you that you can.

The cleverness of your body

Chiropractors work from the principal that your body is clever and that cleverness flows from your brain, through your spinal cord and nerve system, connecting with every single one of the 72 trillion cells that make up your amazing body.

That cleverness guides your body as it develops from a tiny foetus into a child and then a fully grown adult. It organises and regulates the rhythms and systems of your body, from your heart beating 100.000 times per day, lungs breathing in fresh oxygen and expelling CO2, digestive system breaking down the nutrients you eat into the building blocks for new cells and sleep recharging your energy system for the new day.

Crucially, that cleverness also guides the healing processes of your body. If you fall and cut your hand, the platelets in your blood form a clot to stop the bleeding and, over time, new skin cells grow to close the cut and make the damaged skin whole again, like new. If your body is not healing on its own, then something is blocking the normal healing process and intelligence of your body.

The impact of stress

This blockage is usually a result of different forms of stress, such as:

Physical stress

For instance, a sudden fall or accident to chronic postural tension from your working position and ergonomics.

Chemical stress

Often induced by a poor diet, insufficient water intake, pollution, drugs, medication, smoking, alcohol and hormonal imbalances.

Mental / emotional stress

Your body is a reflection of your mind. Stress from relationships, work pressure, financial uncertainty, poor sleep and life in the busy chaotic world we live in are all reflected in the tone, tension and posture of our bodies.

When it all gets too much

Our brain and body do their best to compensate and adapt to these stressors that make up our lives, however, when it all gets too much, this compensation creates distortions and blockages in our body and nerve system, which disconnects us from that natural cleverness and impacts our ability to heal and function in a healthy way.

Eventually, when your limits are reached, your brain will turn on pain signals or produce symptoms. This is your brain’s alarm system and its way of trying to communicate to you that you need to slow down and get some help, otherwise you will cause damage.

How do I know if I’m out of balance?

Here is how you can tell if you are out of balance:

Distortions in your posture

For example, if you have a forward head posture and a hunched upper back (in photos your head may appear tilted to one side or one shoulder is higher). Your pelvis is unbalanced and you feel like one leg is longer when you walk or run.

Restricted movement

You feel your range of movement is blocked or reduced when you bend forwards or backwards or turn and bend your head and body. This can indicate blockages in specific segments of your spine and pelvis.

Muscle tension

You feel muscle tension in different areas of your body that keeps coming back no matter how much you stretch or massage.

Broken sleep

Your sleep is broken, you either wake up feeling exhausted or your energy doesn’t last you throughout the day. You are bloated or your digestion is irregular, and you are often irritable or moody and struggle with motivation.

Underperformance

Not performing how you used to in your work or sports activities, and you are experiencing recurrent niggling injuries that keep holding you back.

A different approach

If you are feeling out of balance and not functioning at your best, you can consult a chiropractor. They will evaluate your unique history and situation and undertake a comprehensive examination.

This may include a computerised postural analysis and assessment of your balance, movement and neuro-musculo-skeletal framework to identify the pattern of blockages and compensation in your body. They will provide specific chiropractic adjustments combined with tailored advice and exercises to help you not only feel better, but also restore your function and performance.

Here are some common problems people go to a chiropractor for:

  • Low back pain, herniated disk
  • Headaches, migraines, TMJ dysfunction, tinnitus
  • Stress, burnout
  • Insomnia, sleep disturbances, fatigue, brain fog, poor concentration
  • Heartburn, bloating, IBS, irregular digestion
  • Pregnancy-related back pain, pubic symphysis pain, postpartum recovery
  • Babies following difficult / traumatic birth, breastfeeding difficulties, colic
