Public transport strike scheduled for 15 October in Amsterdam

By Beatrice Clarke

GVB, the public transport operator in Amsterdam, has announced that due to union action there will be no trams, buses or metro operating in the early morning of Thursday October 15, 2015.

On Thursday morning tram, bus and metro services in Amsterdam will not begin until 8.30am, with services not expected to reach normal capacity until 11am.

Ferries on het IJ will continue to run to normal schedule, however GVB warns of increased passenger numbers. Train services are not expected to be affected as they are operated by NS, the main railway operator in the Netherlands.

The strike action comes due to trade unions FNV and ABGP’s disagreement to pension discussions with the Dutch government and other unions.
