Amsterdam first city worldwide to get UberBIKE
Too tired to ride your bike home after a night out? A sudden downpour left you stranded in your best outfit with your bike? You’re on a bike trip and you suddenly get a flat tire?
Not to worry, in Amsterdam you can from now on just order an Uber ride complete with bike rack to get both you and your bicycle home safely and comfortably.
UberBIKE is a new service currently only available in the Dutch capital, where the amount of bicycles outnumber the residents and lots of people have cycling as their main mode of transportation.
The new service carries with it a 4 euro surcharge, and vehicles will have room for either one standard bicycle or two racing bikes.
Uber increasing in popularity in Amsterdam
The number of Uber users in Amsterdam is rapidly increasing. In the months of February, March and April of this year, 120.000 people in the city made use of the popular ride-sharing service. That’s a three-fold increase compared to the same period in 2015.
Uber did roll out a similar service in Portland, Oregon last year, but it’s called UberPedal.
How to request UberBIKE?
The new option will appear automatically in your Uber app as long as you’re located in Amsterdam.
Use the following steps and a car with bike rack will be heading your way within minutes:
› Open the Uber app in Amsterdam
› Slide to the option "UberBIKE" and enter the address where you and your bike should be picked-up
› Confirm your request and wait for your UberBIKE to arrive
› The fare of UberBIKE is the uberX fare + 4 euros for your bike
