GVB, the public transport operator for Amsterdam in the Netherlands, has launched a campaign looking for foreign workers to fill bus driver vacancies in the Dutch capital.
The Dutch labour crisis means that even public transport companies are feeling the strain of staff shortages. The GVB previously announced that 133 new drivers are needed to run the bus timetables in Amsterdam successfully.
To reduce the workload on the current drivers, the transport company has started a pilot encouraging English-speaking internationals living in the Netherlands to apply for a job in public transport. All foreign bus drivers who make it through the application process will receive training that matches their previous work experience and will also “follow Dutch [language] lessons every morning”.
The job vacancy posted by the GVB requires applicants to have at least two years of experience as a bus driver, must speak English well, be willing to learn Dutch and have a Dutch driving licence. Those looking for a job at the GVB would work through the employment agency Olympia, as the GVB is not yet permitted to employ non-Dutch-speaking drivers directly.
