Just got a pet in the Netherlands? Struggling to think of a name? Well, here are the most popular names for dogs and cats in the Netherlands this year, according to an annual analysis of some 120.000 Reaal (a pet insurance company) policyholders.

Top dog names in the Netherlands

This year’s list hasn’t changed much when it comes to dog names. Max is again the most popular dog name, followed by Bella and Pip, which have swapped places since last year. Coming in fourth is Bo, which was fifth last year, and in fifth position this year is Lola. Lola is the only newcomer in the top five this year.

Popular cat names

There were plenty of newcomers in the top five this year, with last year’s favourite, Luna, being booted from the list. The 2019 favourite is Simba, perhaps having something to with the new Lion King movie coming out in cinemas soon. Another Lion King character, Nala, is also in the top five, taking second place. Nala is followed by Bella, Pip and Milo. Of the top five, there are three newcomers, namely Simba, Bella and Milo.
