More and more couples in the Netherlands live together before they get married and thus, the marriage date is more often postponed, according to Statistics Netherlands.

Insights (2010)

› 73.000 marriages were performed in 2010 (same as in 2009).
› For one fifth of brides, it was their second marriage.
› One in ten first-time brides were over the age of 40 (1% in 1980).
› One in five women who married for the first time were under the age of 25 (75% in 1980).
› More than half of first-time mothers are not married.
