Once again, DSW has become the first Dutch health insurance company to announce their monthly premiums for the coming year, raising rates for their basic insurance package by 7,6 percent in 2023, or 9,75 euros a month.
DSW first to announce insurance premiums for 2023
DSW consistently wins the annual race to announce its premiums and prices for the next year, giving the public an indication of what they can expect for their health insurance costs in 2023. While these price hikes aren’t quite as high as was initially feared, it marks the most significant increase in premiums ever seen at DSW.
From January, the Schiedam-based insurance company will charge 137,50 euros a month for their basic insurance premium, an increase of 7,6 percent compared to their 2022 rates. Like in 2022 and 2021, DSW is sticking to a deductible excess (eigen risico) of 375 euros.
Costs of insurance and healthcare in the Netherlands rising
DSW has explained that the sharp increase was needed in order to cover the rising costs and salaries within the Dutch healthcare system, but said it was able to limit the increase as a result of making use of the company’s financial reserves. Otherwise, prices would be rising by around 11,75 euros a month.
Prices are expected to rise significantly across all health insurance packages, and insurers have until November 12 to announce their rates for 2023. In order to compensate for the rising cost of living, the Dutch government announced on Prinsjesdag that the healthcare allowance would also increase in the new year.
