Expat Service: File your Dutch income and gift tax return

You are probably aware of the importance of filing your Dutch income tax returns every year. But are you also aware of the importance of filing a Dutch gift tax return?

Whether you’re giving or receiving a gift, it’s important to file your gift tax return with the Dutch Tax Authorities to avoid unexpected tax liabilities. Expat Service has streamlined the process of compiling your Dutch income tax return and gift tax return with their user-friendly online tax portal.

A convenient online tax portal

No matter where you are in the world, you can access the tool 24/7. The online tax portal is designed with expats in mind, featuring an English questionnaire for a clear understanding. The information you provide in the questionnaire, will be used to draft your income tax return. Upon receiving your approval of the draft, Expat Service will file your Dutch tax return electronically with the Dutch tax authorities (Belastingdienst).

So, say goodbye to the complexities of tax filings and say hello to a stress-free way of managing your Dutch finances with Expat Service.

Changes to the 30% ruling from 2024

The 30% ruling is an income tax advantage for highly skilled migrants working in the Netherlands. It is intended as a reimbursement for expenses that expats incur when relocating to the Netherlands and working away from their homeland. If you have been granted the 30% ruling, then your employer may payout 30% of your wages, tax-free.

One of the primary conditions is that your salary is a certain amount after the 30% reduction. These requirements have been increased compared to 2023. In 2024, the minimum salary (after application of the 30% ruling) will be 46.954 euros and 35.048 euros if you are under 30 and have a master’s degree.

As of January 1, 2024, the 30% ruling will be limited. This will mean that new applicants will only be able to exempt 30% of their wages for the first 20 months. After which it will be reduced to 20% and after another 20 months it will be 10%.

This makes it even more crucial to manage your tax affairs efficiently. Expat Service is your go-to source for expert guidance during this transition. Expat Service will ensure that expats navigate the new regulations smoothly and maximise any potential tax benefits.
