A recent study at Ghent University focused on gender differences between the Flemish and Dutch population and revealed that:

› Women show more depression symptoms than men.
› Dutch women show more depression symptoms than Flemish females.
› Dutch (Flemish) womenʼs happiness is related to their income (education).
› Differences between Dutch and Flemish men are minimal.
› Married couples appear less susceptible to depression.
› Age and (number of) children do not affect happiness.
