The Netherlands' top baby names for 2024: Noah remains most popular

The most popular baby names in the Netherlands for 2024 have been revealed. Noah is in the top spot for boys’ names for the sixth year in a row and Emma has made a comeback, taking the crown for girls’ names.

At the beginning of every year, the Dutch Social Insurance Bank (SVB) - which is responsible for paying out the Dutch child benefit - releases a list of the most popular baby names in the Netherlands from the previous year. Overall, 2024 saw the birth of 165.594 babies, including 84.990 boys and 80.604 girls.

The name Noah topped the list for boys’ names and was also the most popular baby name of 2024, with 922 children taking the title. This is the sixth year in a row that Noah has claimed the number-one spot. Following close behind are Luca and Lucas.

Often battling for the top position, Emma has once again reclaimed the crown from Julia as the most common girl’s name, with 657 babies being given the title. In 2023, Julia beat out Emma for the number one position. Other popular girls’ names for last year were Olivia and Nora, while the most popular gender-neutral names were Charlie, Robin and Sammy.
