What is UvA Talen, you ask? UvA Talen is the leading language centre in Amsterdam, offering group, tailor-made and self-guided e-learning courses to internationals worldwide.
Each year, thousands of students complete a language course at UvA Talen, earning an internationally recognised language level certificate.

UvA Talen’s group courses, their most popular course format, provide a great student-teacher experience in an encouraging environment, both in-person in Amsterdam and online via Zoom. Using a whiteboard, textbook, handouts, and quizzes during the course helps put your skills to the test and allows you to make productive mistakes in order to keep improving.
The online courses are administered via a virtual classroom, following the exact same format as the in-class lessons, with the only difference being that the lessons take place online using video, audio, and chat functions.
These group courses are available in 13 different languages: Dutch, English, Spanish, Italian, French, German, Swedish, Portuguese, Arabic, Russian, Japanese, Chinese and Korean.

The evening courses commence four times per year in all 13 languages listed above and are a great option for those who work full-time or attend university classes during the day. The evening courses typically consist of one or two lessons per week, over the course of 10 weeks.
However, if you want to improve your Dutch or English specifically in a short period of time, UvA Talen also offers intensive daytime courses starting every four weeks.
The July and August daytime courses consist of 10 to 20 lessons in total, taught either three days a week (on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays) or five days a week (from Monday to Friday). You can check all the language levels and starting dates on their website.
Dates to keep in mind: their July courses start between July 7-10 and their August courses start on August 4, 2025.
UvA Talen is also offering various extracurricular activities this summer for students who participate in the July or August course round. From movie nights and language cafés to field trips and even running club events, there will be a jam-packed (optional) activity calendar coming your way after you enrol in a summer course!
