Senior DevOps Engineer (Kubernetes, CrossPlane, Atlassian Jira)
About this role
DevOps Engineer (Kubernetes, CrossPlane, Atlassian Jira)
You are a highly skilled DevOps Engineer with a strong focus on Kubernetes and CrossPlane, combined with expertise in Java, Python, Groovy and Jira administration. With your knowledge of the Atlassian Java SDK and ScriptRunner, you extend and optimize tooling that supports thousands of internal users. You will work as a developer within our Kubernetes-based Jira infrastructure, in close collaboration with the Infrastructure Team, ensuring performance, reliability and scalability. Experience with major cloud platforms is a plus, with AWS preferred.
What impact will you have?
You will directly influence how Swisscom operates one of its most critical collaboration platforms, used by more than 10,000 internal users. By combining your skills in Kubernetes, CrossPlane and the Atlassian SDK, you will ensure Jira remains highly reliable, customizable and future proof. You will drive automation, scalability and compliance across the platform, while enabling teams across Swisscom to work more efficiently. While Jira on EKS is currently a major focus, you will also play a key role in developing and extending AnyOrg. This ensures the team is not solely dependent on single experts and can deliver robust solutions across both Atlassian and custom-built platforms.
Your responsibilities
You will take a senior role in a diverse team of 6 engineers located in Rotterdam, operating and further developing heavily used internal collaboration services. You play a vital role in building, operating and evolving our Jira platform on top of Kubernetes and CrossPlane. Currently we are working with Jira, EKS, plugins, etc. Your job is to drive the technical development of the portfolio together with the team.
As a Senior Engineer you always look at the bigger picture and choose what is best for the business. Currently this means working with Jira on EKS, but if an evaluation shows that Jira Cloud or another direction is best, your role will remain key in driving that technical direction together with the team.
Strengthen the team’s capabilities around our custom-developed .NET application, by extending business logic and ensuring data integrity through integrations with IAM platforms.
Take part in the full DevOps lifecycle of our Jira services (development, testing, building, deployment, monitoring)
Develop, maintain and operate Jira plugins (both custom-built and marketplace), using the Atlassian SDK
Work as a developer within our Kubernetes-based Jira infrastructure, in close collaboration with the Infrastructure Team
Configure and continuously improve Jira administration (workflows, schemas, screens, scripting)
Build integrations with other internal services and APIs to extend functionality
Automate and improve existing Jira workflows and DevOps processes using Java, Python, Groovy and ScriptRunner
Contribute to observability, monitoring and alerting Jira services (Grafana, Prometheus, Loki)
Collaborate closely with stakeholders and be in direct contact with users via our service desk
The focus is on business results. For example, if a Jira Cloud evaluation shows that this is the right way forward, the role remains relevant by ensuring we take the best fitting technical direction.
