Chasing live music across the continent is a staple of the summer season. The European festival scene is more diverse than ever this year, taking over historic urban parks, massive woodland camping grounds, and pristine coastal beaches.

1. Tomorrowland, Belgium

If you are a fan of electronic music, you need to head to Tomorrowland, which is generally considered to be one of the best electronic music festivals in the world. Taking place in Flanders in Belgium, the 2026 edition is themed CONSCIENCIA and runs across two weekends: July 17-19 and July 24-26, 2026. This legendary gathering is famous for its insane line-ups, incredible show stagings, and fabulous international crowd.

2. Awakenings Summer Festival, the Netherlands

For those living in or visiting the Dutch borders, Awakenings is the ultimate techno pilgrimage. Taking place from July 10-12, 2026, at the scenic Beekse Bergen in Hilvarenbeek, this massive outdoor event features the absolute pinnacle of electronic music talent. 3. AMF, the Netherlands

Also known as Amsterdam Music Festival, AMF has been taking place every October since 2014. It is considered one of EDM's main events and sees some of the biggest names in music head to the Dutch capital for a fantastic night of beats and magnificent stage production. On Saturday, October 24, 2026, around 40.000 fans will pack into the Johan Cruyff Arena (the biggest stadium in Amsterdam) to crown the world's top DJ.

4. Rock Werchter, Belgium

With iconic festivals like Glastonbury taking a scheduled fallow year to let their fields rest, rock and pop fans are heading directly to Belgium instead. Running from July 2-5, 2026, Rock Werchter is Belgium's largest music festival - a four-day extravaganza that boasts an unmatched atmosphere and an unmissable heritage. Offering an expansive camping experience and a line-up consistently packed with global heavyweights, it is an absolute rite of passage for music lovers in Europe.

5. Lowlands, the Netherlands

Officially titled A Campingflight to Lowlands Paradise, this three-day festival is a massive favourite for people in the Netherlands. Staged in Biddinghuizen from August 21-23, 2026, Lowlands welcomes around 65.000 attendees to enjoy a vibrant mix of rock, pop, hip-hop, and electronic music. Beyond the heavy-hitting music stages, the festival grounds host an array of indoor cinema tents, theatre performances, stand-up comedy, and interactive literature.

6. Openair Frauenfeld, Switzerland

This hip-hop festival has been taking place in the same Swiss city almost every year since 1985. Openair Frauenfeld is a legend on the hip-hop festival scene and the largest open-air festival in Switzerland, welcoming over 100.000 attendees annually. In 2026, it will take place between July 9 and 11 and feature top hip-hop artists in its amazing venue. The festival grounds are located on a protected nature reserve with camping and day ticket options.

7. Rock en Seine, France

Taking place at the Domaine National de Saint-Cloud, just west of Paris, Rock en Seine is a five-day music extravaganza. Although primarily known as a rock festival, it caters to all different kinds of contemporary music tastes and sees roughly 40.000 people attend annually. Running from August 26-30, 2026, it is the perfect choice for anyone who wants to combine top-tier live music with a city break in the French capital.

8. EXIT 2 Montenegro, Montenegro

Following its landmark 25th-anniversary milestone, the legendary festival organisation has departed its traditional home at the Petrovaradin Fortress (Serbia) to launch a game-changing double-header. This summer, the brand is debuting two entirely free-entry festivals under the banner EXIT 2 MONTENEGRO, giving you the perfect excuse to plan a coastal getaway.

The music kicks off with the Long Beach Edition in Ulcinj from July 3-6, 2026, staged on one of Europe's longest sandy beaches. This first weekend features a stripped-back experience focused on nature, sports, and top-tier electronic talent like Argy, Jamie Jones, Maceo Plex, Monolink, and Stephan Bodzin.

The party then returns from August 28-31, 2026, for the Sea Dance Edition in Budva, bringing some of the biggest names in electronic music to the decks, including Charlotte de Witte, Peggy Gou, and HUGEL.

9. Sziget Festival, Hungary

Over 550.000 festival-goers rush to the marvellous Danube to experience pop, rock, and indie music at the Sziget Festival in Budapest each summer. Taking place from August 11-15, 2026, on the vibrant island of Obuda, the event hosts over 1.000 individual performances. This massive scale makes it one of the largest music and cultural festivals on the planet, transforming the island into a literal "Island of Freedom" for a week.
