Pride Amsterdam canal parade to return to Dutch capital in 2022
After two years in a row with barely any Pride celebrations, organisers behind the event have announced that 2022 will see a return to the more traditional Pride programme, with a full nine days committed to the event this summer.
Pride organisers optimistic event and canal parade will go ahead
While organisers and the municipality had both been optimistic about Pride Amsterdam festivities last year, ultimately the coronavirus pandemic meant large events were once again off the table. Sadly, this resulted in a rather subdued edition of the event in the year that should have been Pride Amsterdam’s 25th anniversary.
At the time, organisers hoped to plan a substitute event for May 2022, and while it looks as though those plans have been discarded, the Pride Amsterdam Foundation has confirmed that this year’s celebration will be going ahead in August - and that the beloved canal parade will be back.
Pride Amsterdam to return summer 2022
This year, Pride Amsterdam will be taking place between July 30 and August 7, with the iconic pride parade transforming the Dutch capital and returning to the Amsterdam canals on Saturday, August 6.
The full programme is yet to be finalised, but Pride director Lucien Spee de Castillo Ruiz is confident this year will be one to remember: “We are now making an organisational catch-up sprint and with all partners to ensure that the 25th edition of the canal parade will be unforgettable.”
