Earlier this year, Amsterdam unveiled the world’s very first 3D-printed steel footbridge in the Red Light District. Not to be outdone, this week Nijmegen unveiled its very own 3D-printed bicycle bridge. Measuring 29 metres, this is the longest 3D-printed bridge in the world.

Designed by Michiel van der Kley, the bridge project was first announced by the municipality way back in 2018, when Nijmegen was dubbed the Green Capital of Europe. “It took a long time, but it's fantastic that it finally worked,” the designer told BNR, who worked with the Eindhoven University of Technology to realise his vision. "When you're on top of it, it's just a bridge, but when you stand next to it, I think it looks beautiful," Van der Kley says.
