A man in The Hague had to pinch himself last week to make sure he wasn’t dreaming - or perhaps, more accurately, having a nightmare. He had gone into his bathroom to find a two-metre-long snake wriggling around on the floor. It wasn’t until three days later that the snake was finally caught.

When he got them on the phone, the Dierenambulance Den Haag also didn’t believe what was happening. ““Are you sure that’s what you saw?” That was my first question,” John Buijs from the Dierenambulance told Omroep West. “Because it doesn’t often happen that there is a snake in the bathroom.”
The resident of the house duly took a video of the snake and sent it over to the animal ambulance staff, who confirmed that he was not mistaken. They paid a visit to the man’s address on Gouveneurlaan in The Hague. “However, the snake could not be caught on Wednesday,” Buijs said. “The creature was still lively enough and had already hidden behind a kitchen cupboard. No matter what we tried, we couldn’t get it out.”
The man had to inform his neighbours that there was a two-metre-long snake on the loose. No one reported losing their pet, so it’s still a mystery where the snake came from.
Man and his neighbour catch the snake two days later
For two days after that, it was quiet, and then on Saturday the snake reappeared. “The animal showed itself again, and the resident immediately called a neighbour. Together they managed to catch the snake safely, and they called us again,” said Buijs.
The snake, which was unharmed by the whole ordeal, was taken away by the Animal Ambulance and will soon be transferred to a specialised animal shelter, unless someone comes forward in the meantime to claim it as their pet.
