The full-sized replica of Noah’s Ark which was built by Johan Huibers, a Dutch builder, has been put up for sale.

Noah’s Ark replica in the Netherlands

Johan Huibers built Noah’s Ark (Ark van Noach) himself and after completion in 2012, it was made open to the public in the Netherlands. Huibers built the ark to draw attention to the story of Noah and the Bible. It has therefore acted as a kind of museum.

The replica was built according to Biblical dimensions and measures 122 metres long, 29 metres wide and 27 metres high. There are seven floors with an exhibition about Noah, but also other modern facilities such as cinemas, restaurants and four apartments.

Ark van Noach to be auctioned off

Since 2016, the ship has been closed to the public and sitting idle in the water at the quay in Krimpen aan den IJssel, near Rotterdam. "We have been trying to find another partner for 8,5 years now and I have travelled all over the world, from South Korea to Brazil. But unfortunately, it has not yielded anything so far," Huibers told NOS. "The ark has been idle for the past few years, and I feel the responsibility to ensure that it comes back to life."

The ark has been put up for sale with Troostwijk Auctions. "Bidding starts at 350.000 euros, but the ark will not go for that," said Frank Mak of the auction house. "We will see what price the ship will go for. With all the functions on board, you can do a lot with it." Potential buyers have until December 18 to make an offer.
