Have you recently moved to the Netherlands or are you planning to leave the country? Then the M-form is one of the most important tax forms to keep an eye on. The M-form, from the Dutch Tax Authorities (Belastingdienst), indicates your tax situation in the case of immigration or emigration. In TaxSaver’s upcoming webinar: Filing the M-form correctly, they explain what the M-form entails, when it must be submitted and how you can easily complete it. Sign up now for free!
The M-form is a tax return that is required in the year that you move to the Netherlands or leave the Netherlands. It means to tell the tax authorities that you have not lived in the Netherlands all year round, otherwise you may make more or less tax payments than necessary. The Belastingdienst needs the form to calculate your tax assessment correctly. In this way, it provides a definitive answer as to whether you may have paid too much or too little tax.
Are you moving to the Netherlands or are you moving from the Netherlands? Then the M-form is important for you. Your tax situation will change from the moving date and you must inform the tax authorities of this. This applies to both Dutch people who move abroad and internationals who come to the Netherlands.
You complete the M-form in the year that you move from the Netherlands. Completing it can be a complex process. The Belastingdienst will send you a 40-page book that you must complete by hand, which can be a challenge, especially if you are not familiar with Dutch tax laws. It is essential to use the correct formula to avoid problems with the tax authorities.
The M-form is only available in paper format, there is no digital version that can be downloaded. You can request the form by telephone from the Belastingdienst. If you don't feel like doing paperwork, you can easily complete and submit the form together with TaxSavers. You will then receive the form digitally and conveniently in the English language. The completed form will be discussed with you before it is submitted to the Belastingdienst.
TaxSavers specialises in helping expats with Dutch taxes. Completing the M-form is also part of this. Their experienced team of tax advisors will guide you through every step of the process.
