Mark hails from the Emerald Isle but has been living in the land of cheese and deep-fried-indiscriminate-meat since February 2009. As of this week the frequency of intercity trains between The Hague's Holland Spoor station and Brussels will be increased from two to eight trains.

Fyra

Since last December the direct train service between Antwerp, Brussels and The Hague was discontinued when the Fyra took control of the route. The high-speed train does not stop in the Hague, meaning that it was necessary to stop over in Rotterdam and take the more expensive Fyra in order to cross the border to Belgium.

The fourfold increase in intercity trains will be partnered with the already existing Thalys service and the cross-border local trains, giving a lot more options from travellers heading south of the border.

Weekend changes

However, during the weekend this connection will stop at Antwerp, meaning that anyone who is Brussels-bound will need to purchase an extra ticket for the final leg of the journey.
