Those travelling through Amsterdam, whether by car or train, are advised to avoid the Zuidas area from Thursday night to Monday morning, as construction work means that access to the area will be severely limited during this period.

Extreme disruption

During the period from Thursday, October 31 to Monday, November 4, a new, absolutely massive roof will be installed on the new passenger tunnel from Amsterdam Zuid station across the A10 South and the railway.

Because of the installation, trains will not be running from Amsterdam Zuid or Amsterdam RAI and parts of the A10 and A4 motorways will be closed off from Thursday 10pm until Monday 5am. Tracks and roadway will have to be removed and put back again later for the huge roof section of the passageway to be installed.

If you’re driving from the A10 West, the A10 South will be closed off from De Nieuwe Meer junction in the direction of the A2 and A10 East. If you’re coming from the A4 / Schiphol, the A4 and A10 South will be closed off from the Badhoevedorp junction onwards. Trains will not run on Friday or Saturday and on Sunday there will be limited services. Train services are expected to return to normal on Monday.

Work from home

Because of the limited access to the area and the road and train diversions, extreme disruption is expected. The city is therefore urgently advising those commuting by car to work from home or elsewhere so that alternative routes remain available for those for whom travelling by car is necessary. Moreover, the city advises avoiding the Zuidas area altogether, or as much as possible and staying up to date on traffic updates via NS, 9292, Waze and Google Maps.
