Haarlem is launching a trial with the LED’s Parksysteem in the bicycle parking area underneath the station square. The LED’s Parksysteem helps cyclists find a free parking spot via the use of dynamic signs and red and green lights, which guide cyclists to available parking spaces.

The new system will hopefully not only make the bicycle parking area more user-friendly, but also more efficient. Nowadays the parking is generally around 80 percent full, and the new system will guide cyclists to the remaining, often hard-to-find free spaces. Furthermore, bikes that have been abandoned or forgotten can be more quickly identified and removed. The trial is part of a larger scheme to reduce bicycle parking nuisance.
