An intensive period of renovations at Groningen Centraal Station has kicked off, bringing major train disruptions for over two months. From May 10 to July 13, Dutch rail passengers can expect very few to no trains running to, from and via the main station in Groningen.
On the weekend of May 10, the first phase of the 64-day renovations at Groningen Centraal began, with no trains running to, from and via the station. The disruptions are set to continue until July 13 as Dutch rail operator ProRail works on the construction of a new pedestrian tunnel, renewal and relocation of train tracks and moving the bus station.
According to NOS, ProRail is overhauling the station to allow travellers using public transport to transfer more quickly and easily. While replacement buses will run where trains are disrupted, passengers should consult the travel planner to get the most up-to-date information about their journey.
The renovation of the largest train station in the Dutch province will take place in six phases. Here is an outline of the different phases and the train traffic affected:
Groningen Centraal Station is expected to fully reopen on July 13 after the major renovations are complete.
