Magic Realism between City and Science Park, Utrecht and Uithof - from Rietveld to Koolhaas

After 50 years, Utrecht and the Uithof are becoming more and more intertwined. Every day thousands of people commute between the City and Science Park, Utrecht and Uithof. Although some people cover the distance absent-mindedly and others are sunk in thought, everyone orients him or herself consciously or unconsciously by means of objects along the route. Which objects have this function for you?

Photography competition for students
In honour of UU's anniversary and the 50 years that the Uithof has been inexistence, the university art committee is organising a photography competition for students. The idea is for them to photograph objects that mark for them the route between the city and the university. Most students cycle. The various streams of cyclists coming from the city meet at the Wilhelminapark, which is why we are taking the Rietveld Schröder House as a starting point. Where the route ends at the Uithof is up to you to decide. It could be any one of the buildings there, for example the Educatorium which was designed by Koolhaas or the library, designed by Wiel Arets. They ask each participant to send in a series of five photos at the most, preferably A-4 prints. Please also send the photos digitally or place them on Flickr and / or YouTube and send the link.

First prize: 500 euros A professional jury, with Merel Bem (Volkskrant photography critic and lecturer at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, Amsterdam) as chairperson, will judge the entries. The best entry will be rewarded with 500 euros.

This prize has been donated by the Rietveld Kamer, a foundation of which representatives of the largest Dutch building contractors and property developers in and around Utrecht are members. A generous selection of the photos that have been sent in will be exhibited during the weekend of May 14-15 as part of the anniversary celebrations.

Please submit your entries by 30th April at the latest to the Utrecht University Art Committee:
