We are looking for an Accounting Assistant on behalf of our global travel services provider that is currently expanding their team in Utrecht!
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Transactions & Record-Keeping
- Process accounts payable, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of invoices, payments, and transaction coding
- Ensure all transactions are supported by appropriate documentation and approvals, in line with internal policies and procedures.
Month-End & Year-End Close
- Support the Chief Accountant and Senior Accountant from US HQ with month-end and year-end closing activities
- Review journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations
- Assist in the review of financial statements and management reports prepared by third-party service providers to ensure accuracy and timeliness
- Prepare ad hoc reconciliations and assist in resolving any discrepancies.
Compliance, Audit & Tax
- Assist in compiling documentation for audits and tax filings
- Coordinate with external accountants, auditors, and the Chief Accountant to provide relevant financial data
- Collaborate with third-party service providers to support local tax filings and compliance in the Netherlands and other European jurisdictions
Payroll & Banking Support
- Support payroll coordination to ensure accurate and timely salary payments
- Review and process employee expense claims, verifying receipts and approvals
- Liaise with banking institutions and third-party vendors to ensure smooth processing of payments to suppliers and employees.
Financial Analysis & Process Improvement
- Analyze financial trends and provide actionable insights to support financial decision-making
- Contribute to budgeting and forecasting activities by providing relevant data and analysis
- Assist in enhancing accounting procedures and optimizing internal workflows for efficiency.
Collaboration & Communication
- Partner with cross-functional teams including HR, Operations, and other Finance colleagues to ensure seamless financial processes
- Maintain strong communication with the Global Finance Team in Berkeley, the finance team in France and third-party accounting providers
- Coordinate with the Dutch payroll team to ensure accurate and compliant payroll processes
- Support ad-hoc financial projects, including reporting improvements and system implementations.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Able to work from office at least 4 days a week (Wednesdays are working from home day)
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- 1-3 years of experience in an accounting or finance role.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with accounting software.
- Excellent communication skills in English; knowledge of other European languages is a plus.
- Basic knowledge of international accounting standards (US GAAP, IFRS, Dutch GAAP) is a plus
- High ethical standards and ability to handle confidential financial information.
