Amsterdam’s Museumplein is buzzing with refurbishments this spring as the Van Gogh Museum’s recent public accessibility arrives only weeks after the Rijksmuseum’s highly publicised reopening.

Home to the world’s largest collection of Vincent Van Gogh's work, his namesake museum reopened to the public on May 1, 2013 after seven months of reconstruction.

For seven months, prized works of art from the Van Gogh Museum’s world famous collection were on display at the Hermitage Amsterdam.

The museum's iternal facilities have been renovated while the construction crew keept to a tight schedule for an on-time reopening.

Updates to its fire safety standards have been added, along with new flooring and a new roof, amongst others.

In an effort to become more sustainable, the building has also been equipped with new air conditioning, ideal for insulation and sustaining climate control throughout the exhibition halls.

With additions to updated multimedia applications for presentations and exhibitions, the Van Gogh Museum will now offer an option for guests to select specific visiting times when ordering tickets online.

A special anniversary exhibition titled "Van Gogh at Work" will run from May 1, 2013 to January 12, 2014.

Marking the 160th anniversary of Van Gogh's birth, the exhibition features an overview of the artist's multi-faceted oeuvre that has fascinated audiences for over a century.

Supplementing the permanent collection of over 200 paintings, drawings and letters by Van Gogh, visitors can also view artworks by Paul Gauguin, Emile Bernard, Claude Monet and others. Together, this multidimensional display offers a deeper insight to Van Gogh’s world.
