Dutch composer builds piano out of LEGO

By Kiri Scully

Talk about passion! In an effort to show his children it was indeed possible, pianist Jeroen van Veen from Pernis, near Rotterdam, built a full-sized piano out of more than 30.000 LEGO pieces.

Having gathered second-hand pieces from all around the world, the piano took 2,5 years to build. The pieces are not glued so they can be dismantled at any time, and whilst it does not actually play, it is rigged up to a digital keyboard placed under the keys, which has been incorporated into the design.

Van Veen describes it as a hobby that simply got out of hand.
