Hoyte van Hoytema wins BAFTA for Best Cinematography

Hoyte van Hoytema was born in Switzerland to Dutch parents and studied cinematography at the Łódź National Film School in Poland after being rejected by the film school in Amsterdam. The 52-year-old Dutchman has made a name for himself working on a number of major motion pictures and has even had BAFTA nominations for his work in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2012), Interstellar (2015) and Dunkirk (2018).

Van Hoytema’s work on Oppenheimer is what finally scored him his first major win for best cinematography. The Dutch cinematographer has also been nominated for an Oscar in the American Academy Awards, which will take place in March this year.

Oppenheimer wins seven BAFTAs

The BAFTA for Best Cinematography isn’t the only prize that was awarded for the well-known film about a physicist who developed the atomic bomb. Oppenheimer won a total of seven BAFTAs including best film, best actor and best director.
