Give your child the competence, confidence and skills of aquatic safety with the carefully constructed swimming lessons given by Children of the Water. From first survival to achieving the equivalent of an A & B swimming diploma, they teach self-rescue techniques which will set your children up for a lifetime of fun, confidence and safety in the water.

Swimming courses that fit the age and experience of your child

Depending on age and experience, you can step in at any part of the journey or pick a specific course that best fits the age and experience of your child. All sessions at Children of the Water are one-on-one with a specialised instructor and each course consists of 20 sessions.

Step 1 - Self-Rescue Course

The Self-Rescue course by Children of the Water focuses on floating, breathing, turning and staying calm for all children nine months and up.

In this course, your child will learn to:

  • Use breath control in or underwater
  • Roll over onto their back when they need to breathe
  • Float, relax and breathe until rescued by an adult
  • Perform these skills fully clothed
  • Propel or swim a short distance to a parent or the wall or swim a short distance to safety.

Children who are walking (starting from one year old until as old as six years) can learn to:

  • Use breath control underwater
  • Roll over onto their back when they need to breathe
  • Float, relax and breathe until rescued by an adult
  • Swim with their face in the water to a safe place / parent
  • Perform these skills fully clothed

Step 2 - Swim-Float-Swim Course

This course by Children of the Water is for learning to swim from point A to B using a swim - float - swim sequence and is for all children two years old and up or children that have done Step 1 - Self-Rescue.

Children of the Water’s Swim-Float-Swim (SFS) course is offered to all children who have successfully completed their Self-Rescue course and will take them further on their swimming journey.

SFS is also the next step towards independently swimming. Depending on the age and the ability to kick their legs, your child will learn to swim from one point to another on their own.

In this course, your child will learn to:

  • Swim - float on their back - swim
  • Use breath control in the water
  • Swim with their face down in the water to a safe place / parent
  • Roll over onto their back and float when they need to breathe

Step 3 - Swim Training Courses

This is for children who are already independent in the water and for those who have completed the Self-Rescue and Swim-Float-Swim programmes. The approach of Children of the Water is to work with each child’s individual abilities by assessing each child’s strengths and challenges. Children of the Water always integrates their Self-Rescue technique into every course.

There are three levels to the Swimming Training Courses from Children of the Water that cover all the major elements of independent swimming. At the end of the courses, your child may be able to take the certification to achieve the Children of the Water’s International Swimming Diploma, which is the equivalent of the A & B Diploma. This will be dependent on whether your child reached all the required learning targets.
